Does graduate-level writing require a different tone than undergraduate essays?

I just finished my first major assignment for a 100-level English course and I'm worried my writing style is too casual. A writing center tutor mentioned that graduate school expectations shift from personal reflection to critical analysis, but I'm not sure how to adjust my voice. Should I start removing all first-person pronouns now to prepare for higher-level work?
