Does a literature review count as original research for nursing?

I am currently drowning in clinical paperwork for my senior capstone and need to clarify if synthesizing existing evidence satisfies the research requirement for my final paper. My preceptor mentioned that I need to conduct 'primary research,' but I have already spent weeks organizing 15 peer-reviewed articles into a matrix. I am worried that if I don't frame this correctly, I will fail the assignment despite the hours spent analyzing these clinical outcomes.
