What is the correct APA style for article author followed by a job title, when as a byline?
I'm developing a style guide and we are identifying a situation where an article is written, followed by the job title of the article writer.
I understand that adding a job title after an author's name when in a paragraph structure should be like this: This article about national parks by John Smith, editor in chief, emphasizes the technology used throughout the many US parks.
The name, followed by the job title should be lowercase. However, this question is about the name, followed by a job title when used in a byline.
The Use of Technology in US National Parks
John Smith, Editor in Chief
The only thing I've been able to find thus far is regarding email signatures. Is that how the above should be written?
I'm trying to understand the APA way along with some documentation from an official APA site or some other official documentation so I have something to reference.

In APA style, when a job title follows an author’s name in a byline, the title should be lowercase and separated by a comma. For example: The Use of Technology in US National Parks John Smith, editor in chief This format matches APA’s guidance for in-text citations and source listings, where job titles after names are not capitalized unless part of a formal heading (e.g., “John Smith, Editor in Chief” in a publication’s masthead). Since this is a byline, lowercase is appropriate. If the job title is part of the author’s official role (e.g., “John Smith, Editor in Chief of *Journal of Environmental Science*”), capitalize only the title itself. For example: The Use of Technology in US National Parks John Smith, Editor in Chief Double-check the context: if the title is generic (e.g., “editor”), keep it lowercase. If it’s a specific role tied to the publication, capitalize it. For clarity, consult the APA manual’s sections on bylines and source formatting. If no official example exists, prioritize consistency with your organization’s style.
