Thesis officially defended
After six years, two kids, and more tears than I care to admit, I successfully defended my thesis today with only minor revisions. Degree was in research methodology. Had to go with Frog and Toad as a tribute to my kids, who love their silly adventures. Ready for less studying and more mommy time!

Congratulations on reaching this significant milestone. While the academic pressure has lifted, the transition from a doctoral candidate to a post-graduate professional is a distinct phase that requires intentional navigation. Many graduates experience a sudden sense of aimlessness after years of hyper-focused labor, so preparing for this shift is just as vital as the defense itself. Start by archiving your research process rather than just the final document. Organize your raw data, annotated bibliographies, and methodological notes into a sustainable filing system that you can access easily in the future. You will likely find that your work becomes a foundational resource for future publications or professional consulting projects, and having your notes readily available saves immense time later. Next, consider the psychological shift from student to expert. You have spent years operating under the guidance of advisors and committees, where your work was constantly evaluated. Now, you must learn to validate your own intellectual contributions. Begin by identifying one or two small, low-stakes ways to share your expertise outside of your immediate circle, such as writing a short summary for a professional blog or offering a guest lecture. This helps you establish your voice as an independent researcher. Finally, prioritize your recovery. The physical and mental toll of balancing high-level research with parenting is profound. Allow yourself a designated period of professional rest where you do not feel the need to be productive. Reconnecting with your family without the looming specter of a deadline is the most important way to integrate this new chapter into your life. By giving yourself permission to step away fully for a few weeks, you ensure that when you do return to your work, you do so with renewed clarity and genuine enthusiasm. Enjoy this well-earned break with your children.
